Elements and Performance Criteria

Performance Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to:

operate a feeder breaker on at least two occasions, including performing at least two of the following operations:

sequencing operations to set tramming arrangements

relocating

aligning and levelling relative to the belt

reconnecting services.

During the above, the candidate must:

locate and apply required documentation, policies and procedures and confirm work activity is compliant

implement the requirements, procedures and techniques for conducting feeder breaker operations, including:

reading, interpreting, communicating and applying technical information

identifying, addressing and reporting environmental issues, potential hazards and risks

applying equipment and manual handling techniques

selecting and using relevant tools and equipment

identifying work requirements

applying diagnostic and fault finding techniques

maintaining equipment records

applying cable care and safety

work with others to conduct feeder breaker operations in a way that meets required outcomes, including:

organising work activities to meet task requirements

communicating clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions

complying with reporting requirements and procedures.


Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must be able to demonstrate knowledge to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including knowledge of:

key legislation required to conduct feeder breaker operations

key policies, procedures and documentation required to conduct feeder breaker operations

feeder breaker characteristics, technical capabilities and limitations, including:

prestart, startup, shutdown and isolation procedures

key operations, including:

sequencing of operations to set tramming arrangements

relocating

aligning and levelling relative to the belt

reconnecting of services

key breaker types

feeder breaker maintenance, inspection and fault fining requirements and procedures

site environmental requirements and constraints for feeder breaker operations

techniques for interpreting and applying basic mine geology and survey information

principles and techniques for identifying and responding to relevant hazards and emergencies, including those related to:

roof

rib

floor

falls

techniques for applying mine environmental data, requirements and constraints related to feeder breaker operations, including:

ventilation and gas data

deputy reports

geological data

survey data

site requirements for housekeeping, completing maintenance records and reporting requirements

basic techniques for communicating job activities with others.
